Hiroshi Tagami, one of twelve children whose father had died,
Hiroshi Tagami, drawn by their peacefulness and
grace, has often painted koi, as in this section of his "Ballet
Koi" painting.

spent his youth working on O`ahu plantations to support his family during
the Depression.
He was already a veteran of the Korean War and had a photography business
when he used his G.I. Bill to enroll in the Honolulu Academy of Arts in
1964.
Since then he's become one of Hawai`i's most successful painters, with
over 6000 paintings displayed in public and private collections literally
around the world. Whether abstract, landscape or portrait, Hiroshi's masterful
paintings always make an indelible impression.

Michael Powell abandoned a promising corparate career in 1987 to
study painting with Hiroshi who insisted that he evolve his own style.
Today Michael has a devoted following of over 1000 individual and corporate
collectors who appreciate the ethereal qualities of his tranquil Hawai`i
landscapes and seascapes that are distinctly and completely "Powell".
Pam Hons 're-began' painting seriously recently. Sidetracked from
her early interest by runninga design business and raising her children,
she is now able to devote herself to painting Hawai`i scenes, sometimes
open air with Hiroshi and Michael, sometimes sharing their studio in uncooperative
weather, and always encouraged by them as an emerging artist.
