Deep Sea Fishing - Kona Hawaii Fishing
The geography of the Big Island makes Kona the Sport Fishing Capital of the Pacific. Five huge mountain masses protect the Kona coast from winds, resulting in sea conditions that are usually as calm as a lake. The steep slope of the ocean bottom puts the deep sea sport fishing within a short distance from the shoreline. Just three miles straight out of the harbor, it's over 6,000 feet deep. Six species of billfish roam the Kona coast along with six species of tuna, dorado, wahoo, several species of shark, and a wide variety of big-game bottom fish.
Dolphin and Whale Watching - Body Glove Cruises
The Kona Coast on the west shore of the Big Island of Hawai'i offers some of the best whale watching in the world. Watch, listen, and learn to appreciate from trained researchers. Knowledge and real experience makes a difference for the better in your whale watching adventure. See brilliantly colored tropical fish, endangered sea turtles, and wild dolphins amid the gorgeous coral reef gardens at Pawai Bay, a protected marine preserve.
Jet Skis and Wave Runners – Hawai'i Active
Jet ski the beautiful blue waters of the South Pacific off Kailua Kona. Beginners and experts alike will experience the thrill of speed and splashing water as you ride safe and easy to operate wave runners in the tropical waters.
Sailing - Kamanu Sailing Charters
Kona's only daily sailing vessel, "Kamanu" is a custom 36-foot catamaran built for speed and comfort. She's 22 feet wide, making for a large stable platform with an expansive "trampoline" or webbing net up forward on which to lie. Soak in the sun, relax in the shaded open air cabin, or just watch the ocean glide by you. The thermally generated winds on the Kona Coast are generally in the 10-15 knot range.
Scuba Dive - Kona Honu Divers
Kona offers spectacular coral and reef fish diving – but nothing compares to the night dive with the Manta Rays. After completing a late afternoon dive, relax on board enjoying fresh fruit, cold water, and juice. Return to the same location after dark where large lights draw in plankton, which attracts the Manta Rays. Divers sit on the ocean floor and watch the Mantas perform their acrobatics.
Boasting the most pristine coral reefs in the United States, the warm Hawaiian water of the Kona Coast is a snorkeler's dream. Hundreds of species of reef fish, turtles, dolphins, eels, and Manta Rays have been identified along our leeward shores. Most of the dive and dolphin/whale watching boats offer packages for snorkelers as well. For a private snorkeling experience, bring your own equipment or rent from the Inn.
